Abersoch was once said to have been the most beautiful of all Llyn's small fishing hamlets. The village of Llanengan and its ancient church was the center of the parish. Abersoch is now a centre for dinghy sailing and other watersports such as windsurfing and jet-skiing. Nearby Porth Neigwl is also popular for surfing; it can hold large swells in the winter months however south-westerly prevailing winds can affect wave quality.
